We deployed some backend updates that improved page speed by 15% for all landing pages.
Faster page speed leads to more money raised and there are three main metrics that may be affected:
- Conversion Rate: This is the percentage of people who complete a desire action (donating, signing a petition, etc.). According to Shopify, “a one-second improvement in website speed can boost mobile user conversions by up to 27%.”
- Bounce Rate: This is the percentage of people who view a page and leave. According to Think with Google, “The probability of bounce increases 32% as page load time goes from 1 second to 3 seconds.”
- SEO Ranking: This is how high your page shows up when someone searches for it. Slow-loading pages leads to a poor user experience, so Google uses site performance, and specifically mobile page load speed, as a factor in these rankings.
Remember, most donors view donation pages on a mobile device and often with less than ideal cell reception. You can help ensure your pages load faster with these two basic rules:
- Use Web-Friendly Images: Pages with large images can cause slower loading times. Try to keep any images under 500kb to optimize speed. A slightly larger image is acceptable as a background image, which won’t be loaded on mobile.
- Limit Analytics Tools: The more tools you use to measure engagement and click-through rate, the worse your page load speed will be. Your best bet is to use built-in WinRed tools and integrations to measure your marketing.
